Tottenham Hotspur Sign João Palhinha on Season-Long Loan from Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of João Palhinha on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich, with an option to buy included in the deal.
The Portuguese midfielder was made available by Bayern on a permanent transfer. However, Spurs only wanted a loan move with flexibility for the future. This deal brings Palhinha back to the Premier League — a league where he once dominated with Fulham.
It feels like just yesterday when Palhinha was bossing the midfield at Craven Cottage. At the time, many considered him among the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League.
Palhinha’s Bayern Struggles
Bayern initially pursued Palhinha two seasons ago. He nearly joined the Bundesliga giants then, but Fulham blocked the move after they failed to land Scott McTominay from Manchester United.
Bayern finally signed him the following summer. Expectations were high, but the reality was different. Under new boss Vincent Kompany, Palhinha struggled to find a place. Kompany preferred Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich in midfield.
Just a season later, Palhinha is already heading out — not permanently, but to reignite his career in England.
Back to the Premier League
The 28-year-old follows a path similar to Ryan Gravenberch, who also left Bayern for more playing time in the Premier League. Now, under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou (not Thomas Frank, who is at Brentford), Palhinha will look to return to form.
With Spurs pushing for a top-four finish, this signing adds much-needed depth and grit to their midfield.
